We started raising alpacas in September 2005 after considerable research. We had no farm experience prior to getting into the alpaca business. We were immediately fascinated with these beautiful animals and remain "hooked on the alpaca lifestyle". These docile animals make caring for them a breeze. Our alpacas are very friendly and get attention on a daily basis. We can see all our alpacas from our home and enjoy watching them in the pastures.
Carol is a ER physician and is the current Medical Director at a rural hospital Emergency Department here in Alabama. While not a vet, she has much insight to the health needs of the herd. She owns an ultrasound machine and does these exams on sight. She is also able to do our own fecal studies and IgG's. She places microchips and pulls blood for various reasons. Dr. Norm Evans oversees our herd health along with our local vet.
Ben is retired and supervises the farm. He manages the day-to-day husbandry issues. He keeps the farm safe and secure from predators with excellent fence care and ensures excellent alpaca health by insisting on pristine pasture care as well as up-to-date immunization protocols.
Between Carol and Ben's hard work and dedication, Tuscany Valley Alpacas has become a piece of heaven with 'ROCK SOLID GENETICS IN THE HEART OF THE SOUTH' and an excellent example of utilizing a small amount of acreage wisely and efficiently.
Raising alpacas has added a new dimension to our lives. There are many activities associated with the alpaca world including shows, conferences, seminars and auctions, all of which we enjoy. We particularly enjoy hosting farm visits and assisting folks new to the alpaca world.....without pressure to purchase animals or breeding services from us. We look forward to what the future holds for the alpaca industry.
Our farm is located on 5 acres in a quiet, peaceful environment on the outskirts of Hamilton, Alabama. We are located in the northwest corner of the state just a few miles from Mississippi and Tennessee. We are located 1.5 hours NW of Birmingham, 3 hours south of Nashville and 3 hours east of Memphis. It will be well worth your drive to Hamilton, Alabama to visit our farm.
